System Administration
Are you sick of shared hosting and have no idea how to set up or manage your own virtual private server? We can help you with that.
What is a Virtual Private Server?
A Virtual Private Server is like a dedicated server, but is actually a virtual machine (aka a virtual computer) that have it's own resources such as CPU, memory and storage. Since the resources are allocated for you to use an the computer/server run it's own copy of its operating system, you do not have to worry about bad neighbors who abuse resources or neglect to update their software, thus causing the whole server to become compromised.
However, most virtual private server providers only provide unmanaged services. This means that you have to set up the server yourself. Without having the full technical knowledge, your server may perform slowly, have problems loading pages or worse, your server can become compromised.
Why choose us for managing your server?
We have years of expertise of administering servers and web services. We can do the following:
- Administer and maintain the operating system such as installing updates, system hardening, backup and recovery. We have the expertise to manage Linux and Windows servers.
- Configure, manage and maintain services (e.g. Apache/IIS, PHP, Mysql, Postgresql, Postfix).
- Provide an easy to use web control panel to add new websites and databases (e.g. Webmin.). Note that Cpanel costs extra.
- Provide technical support for Wordpress
- We are Comptia Security Plus certified.
What are your costs?
Here is the list of costs.
- System Administration costs ($10 a month)
- Managed Weekly Backups (up to 3 months) ($1.99 a month)
If you don't have a virtual private server, here are the additional costs. For Linux hosts, they will have DirectAdmin installed unless you request Cpanel. If you want Windows Server, there is no control panel. While we will manage your services, you will still have administrative access to the server.
- Virtual Private Server: 20GB Storage, 1 GB RAM ($4.50 a month), 40 GB storage, 2GB RAM ($8.00 a month)
- Cpanel ($12 a month)
How will this work?
After payment is made, if you have a virtual private server already, we will send you a public SSH key to the root account. Copy this to your .ssh folder using a SFTP client (you may need to show hidden files).
If you want us to order a virtual private server, you don't have to do anything. After payment is made, we will set up the server to it's basic configuration and provide you the account details once finished. Your account will have access to root through the sudo command. Note that we are not responsible if you messed up the configuration and we may charge extra to fix it if it's done by user error.
Cancelation
If you choose to cancel the service, we will remove our administration accounts and remove any backups if you opt to have backups. If you choose to opt for the backups service, download your backups before canceling.
If you choose to order virtual private server services from us, you will have to give two weeks notice. At the end of the month, you will loose access to the virtual private server and any data stored on it will be lost.
Nonpayment: If you don't pay for the monthly fees, you may lose access to the server temporarily. If payment not received in 30 days after it's due, the service will be terminated.
Order
Use the Contact Us page with the subject as System Administration Service Request to start the ordering process and mention that you want System Administration service and provide the services you need. Do not provide any server credentials. Once we received the necessary information, we will send a subscription request through Paypal. Once paid, you will receive instructions to upload the SSH keys if you choose to bring your own Virtual Private Server. Otherwise, we will send you the credentials for the new server.
